O’Romeo Trailer Drops: Shahid Kapoor Turns Bloody Anti-Hero in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Dark Action Drama

The trailer of Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film O’Romeo is out, and it’s as intense as it gets. Released on Wednesday, the three-minute trailer gives a glimpse of Vishal Bhardwaj’s gritty take on a Western-style story set on the streets of Mumbai. Packed with blood-soaked visuals and raw violence, the trailer makes it clear that this is not a film for the faint-hearted.

Shahid Kapoor appears in a striking new avatar, fully embracing a dark, violent anti-hero role that sets the tone for the film.

A Power-Packed Cast

The trailer introduces Avinash Tiwary as the main villain, seen in a matador-like outfit. Disha Patani makes a brief appearance in a dance number, while veteran actors Nana Patekar and Farida Jalal seem to play key roles in the story.

There are also quick glimpses of Vikrant Massey in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, along with Tamannaah Bhatia, adding to the film’s star-studded cast.

What the Story Is About

At the heart of O’Romeo is Haseen Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor. He is shown as a ruthless, tattoo-covered contract killer who also leads a gang. His path crosses with Afsha, played by Triptii Dimri, who comes to him seeking help. What starts as a rescue soon turns into a dark, obsessive, and tragic love story.

Alongside the romance, the film dives into violent gang wars and explores Ustara’s inner moral conflict, giving the action drama emotional depth.

Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj: A Proven Pair

O’Romeo marks the fourth collaboration between Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj after Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. There is also buzz that the film may be inspired by the story of Hussain Ustara from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, though the makers have not officially confirmed this.

High Expectations at the Box Office

The film carries a lot of pressure for Shahid Kapoor, who has not had a big theatrical hit since Kabir Singh in 2019, which earned ₹280 crore in India. His last theatrical release, Deva, managed only ₹34 crore at the box office, as per Sacnilk.

Before that, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya with Kriti Sanon collected ₹85 crore, while Bloody Daddy skipped theaters and released on streaming. His delayed 2022 film Jersey earned just ₹21 crore in India.

Release Date and Box Office Clash

O’Romeo is set to release in theaters on February 13. The film will clash at the box office with Bejoy Nambiar’s Tu Yaa Main, starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav.

With Shahid Kapoor in a raw anti-hero role and Vishal Bhardwaj’s signature dark storytelling, O’Romeo is already generating strong buzz ahead of its release.
